In memory of 9/11
“One Rosary, One Nation, 50 Hail Marys, 50 States”
IN MEMORY OF 11 SEPTEMBER
Perhaps the most important work in the history of the Ghirelli Company, this unprecedented work, born from faith and created with love and respect, was subject to the scrutinity and approval of our spiritual directors.
The initial presentation of this rosary by Father Andrew Apostoli, together with the overwhelmingly positive comments and appreciative tributes on the rosary’s Facebook page (including extraordinary testimony by a 9/11 first responder) has given its artists joy that only Divine Providence could grant.
The care in materials and the perfection of the assembly work done by skilled artisans are expressive of an extraordinary love for the Rosary.
The search for perfection in the reproduction of the details was exceptional. For example, the specially developed rust-like plated finish, the metal sheet scrap of the famous Ground Zero Cross reproduced on one of the beams of the cross, and the image of Christ rising from the ruins, as from His grave in Jerusalem, are hand-painted. Everything had to be of the utmost beauty, as this rosary will hopefully become a useful tool in the hands of Providence.
“This Rosary is like Our Lady’s spiritual weapon. It can help to build the wonderful culture of life and destroy the sad culture of death with its war, terrorism and all its attacks on the God-given gift of human life”
From the presentation of EWTN’s Father Andrew Apostoli
“Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
“Since the most holy Virgin gave such power to the holy Rosary, there is no material or spiritual, national or international problem that she cannot solve with the holy Rosary and with our sacrifices”
Sister Lucia dos Santos
The Cross: A perfect replica of the Cross at Ground Zero and a symbol that unites all suffering - of any kind and of any nation. The scrap of sheet metal hanging from the arm of the cross resembles the shroud left by Jesus in the tomb after His Resurrection. “… but Peter got up and ran to the tomb, bent down, and saw the burial cloths alone” Luke 24:12.
The Body of Jesus is not on that Cross as “Why do you seek the living one among the dead?” Luke 25:5
The Centerpiece: The heart of the artwork, its message is inspired by the Resurrection: “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live.“ John 11:25
The Centerpiece is designed to evoke feelings of reconciliation and welcome; all is founded on the certainty of His word "I am with you always”Matthew 28:20
The ruins: The grave of all innocent victims and the heroic rescuers and responders: “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.” John 15:13
The Beads: 50 Hail Mary beads exactly correspond with the 50 States; each double-sided bead features Mary Immaculate of the Miraculous Medal on one side, and the initials of each one of the fifty states on the other, thus entrusting and consecrating the act of prayer to the Blessed Mother as the rosary is prayed.
Each of the antiphon Hail Mary beads are engraved with the three letters U S A, recalling Pope Pius IX’s declaration in 1847 of Mary Immaculate as “Patroness of the United States of America.”
The Color: In this work nothing is accidental; the beads are plated with a special rust-like finish and the details of the scrap of cloth on the Cross and the Risen Christ in the Centerpiece are hand-painted.
