What these 4 saints said about spiritual warfare and the rosary GhirelliOne of the most popular devotions among Catholics, the Rosary is a classic go-to prayer for both the cradle Catholic and new convert. Each Mystery is conducive to meditation, greater ardor for Our Lady and Jesus, and confidence in God’s goodness for our lives. Even more, there are countless examples of ways in which the Rosary has protected people from harm and evil. It is considered the primary spiritual “weapon” against the devil and spiritual attack. Here are four quotes about how the Rosary can assist you in troubling times.

“Love the Madonna and pray the Rosary, for her Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today.” – St. Padre Pio

The prophecies at Fatima served as warnings for the potential evil we’d see in our modern day. One of the ways to stop wars, combat the destruction of the family and society, and preserve purity? Pray the Rosary. This was a directive given by the Blessed Mother herself, a timeless message to which we should all pay heed.

St. Padre Pio was known for his fidelity to praying the Rosary. He was physically attacked by satan, yet was unshaken by these nightly “visits,” because he constantly prayed the Rosary. He carried it with him in his pocket and was known to perpetually aspire the words of the Hail Mary throughout the day. Once, when asked how many rosaries he prayed in a day, he couldn’t recall but thought it was around forty.

“The Rosary is a fortress against evil. It is a sign to satan that you belong to Our Lady.” – St. Dominic

The Dominican rosary is, of course, the standard method of prayer for devoted Catholics. St. Dominic was no stranger to the perils of evil, which may be why Our Lady appeared to him with the format of the beads and what to pray on each one. Carry one in your purse or pocket. Leave one in the desk drawer at work or glove compartment in the car. If you keep a rosary handy at all times, you may find that when you are troubled by diabolic obsession (tormenting thoughts) or oppression (attacks on your property, relationships, or other externals), the invocation of Our Lady through this prayer will bring you consolation and resolution.

“The Rosary is a remedy for all our evils and the root of all our blessings.” – Pope St. Leo XIII

I learned to pray the Rosary when I was a child. I still have my First Communion rosary tucked in my purse, which I bring out while I’m waiting in the confessional line or happen to arrive early to Mass. Many saints believed that daily recitation of the Rosary built a strong spiritual foundation, as well as barricade, against satan. He does not dare come close to one who is truly devout and does more than merely repeat the words of prayers. The Rosary eventually becomes a prayer of the heart, constant utterances to Heaven. That is the greatest protection.

“The Immaculate alone has from God the promise of victory over satan. She seeks souls that will consecrate themselves entirely to her, that will become in her hands forceful instruments for the defeat of satan and the spread of God’s kingdom.” – St. Maximilian Kolbe

Father Gabriel Amorth, once chief exorcist of Rome who died a few years ago, spoke often about satan’s revulsion at the sight of Our Lady or even the mere mention of her name. Another modern exorcist, Father Chad Ripperger, has validated that in his own experience. He has said there is no other saint, no other mention of a name besides that of Jesus, that evokes instant fear and recoil from diabolic influences.

Turn to the Blessed Mother. Begin by praying the Rosary more frequently and ask for her assistance in overcoming ordinary temptations, gaining wisdom about how to handle spiritual attack, and protection against future evil. She will never, ever fail you. She is your spiritual Mother, abundant in mercy.
